New Bern Fire and Rescue Department
Welcome to the unofficial site of New Bern Fire and Rescue Department. We are a combination department made up of career and volunteer professionals. New Bern is a city of about 25,000 people and covers approximately 40 square miles. However these numbers increase every year. We currently operate out of three stations with a fourth one recently closed and equipment consolidated.
New Bern is located at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse Rivers in North Carolina. We are about two and a half hours east of Raleigh, NC, three hours south of Norfolk,Va, and two hours north of Wilmington, NC. We serve mostly a residential town with some light industry. Hatteras Yachts are built here as well as a large Bosch Home Appliance factory.
For the year 2003, NBFD answered between 990 and 1000 calls. I am unsure of the exact number but I know we are in this bracket.
In September 2003, NBFD became New Bern Fire and Rescue. We are a state certified medium rescue department with at least 15 members certified as Emergency Rescue Technicians. We can effect rescues ranging from swift water to high angle and confined spaces as well as trench rescues. Most of our paid personnel as well as some volunteers are EMTs but we do not answer medical calls as a whole. However we do occasionally assist local EMS.
The Bear, our town symbol.
